Snorkeling the Cahuita Reef
Up the coast from Puerto Viejo de Talamanca, Limón, Cahuita is home to the most developed coral reef on Costa Rica's Caribbean coast. This morning tour takes you there on a scenic boat ride to snorkel among tropical fish, then adds a beach break at Punta Cahuita and an hour on foot through the coastal forest.

Below the surface, the reef is busy with tropical fish, and sometimes a reef shark or a stingray glides past. A professional instructor is with the group, and the boat ride out along the coast is a highlight of its own.
Back on land, you pause on the beach at Punta Cahuita for fruit and snacks, then set off on a one-hour guided hike through the coastal forest, looking for monkeys, sloths, birds, frogs and iguanas along the way.
Pick-up is at 7:00 am and drop-off at 12:00 noon, with transportation, all entrance fees and insurance included. Reef-friendly habits go a long way here: never stand on coral, and choose a biodegradable sunscreen.
